Sikkim is a 2nd smallest state of India. It nearly covers around 7,096 KM in area size. It has only four district namely

. East District

East district of Sikkim lies at the eastern Himalayas sharing its international boundary with Bhutan, Tibet and China. The largest town in district is the capital town GANGTOK. The total area of the district is 964 sq km.

Gangtok is the most commercial and administrative hub of Sikkim. It is the 4th capital of state.

Gangtok is connected by road to Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Siliguri and also to all the district headquarters within Sikkim. The Sikkim Nationalized Transport (SNT) operates regular bus service from Gangtok to all major cities and towns in North Bengal and within state. National highways 31A and 31 link Siliguri to Gangtok. Regular bus, jeeps and taxi services are available from Siliguri to the place.

The nearest airport is Bagdogra near Siliguri in North Bengal which is 124 kms away and approximately 5 hrs drive from Gangtok.

By Train »
The two closest railway stations are Siliguri (144 kms.) and New Jalpaiguri (125 kms.) in West Bengal connecting Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati, Lucknow & other important cities.


. West District

West district is the historical place of Sikkim. Sikkim first capital Yuksom lies in West Sikkim and second capital Rabdentse too. The district headquarter is located in Gayzing. It is almost 117KM from capital town gangtok..

The West Sikkim district covers an area of 1166 sq kms. The district is located in the vicinity of Mt. Kanchenjunga. The western side of the district is mountainous.

The topography of the district is mainly hilly with the slopes of the mountains from an altitude of 12,000 feet and above being covered with Rhododendron forests. The district has a rich variety of flora and fauna. The district enjoys a temperate climate the year through.

The district of North Sikkim is located at Mangan. District covers area of almost 4226 sq. km which makes it a largest District in Sikkim.

The area on North Sikkim is coverd with snow for all 12 month a year. Since it share boundary with CHINA district is heavily patrolled with Indian army troop.

Namchi, the headquarters of South Sikkim district is only 90 km away from Gangtok, the state capital. Sikkim Nationalised Transport (SNT) provides daily services between Namchi and Gangtok. One can drive up to Namchi from Siliguri. Private buses, taxis, jeeps are also available. The Melli checkpoint in South Sikkim district is the entry point to South District from West Bengal.

The nearest airport is at Bagdogra at a distance of 110 kms from Namchi and 124 Kms from Gangtok. There are regular scheduled flights operated by the Indian Airlines and other Private Airlines between the major cities such as Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati and Bagdogra.
